I really do think that Barbie dolls have a big influence on kids and how they see themselves. I thought that the video we watched about the Bratz dolls was funny and showed the problem in an exaggerated way. I think that the Simpsons episode did portray the problem nicely and how dolls influence kid's self-esteem about how they should act and feel. Maybe girly barbie does the best sales but why can't they have a barbie thats not as girly. Maybe they will make even more money that way. I think on the other hand, I know little girls can't help but feel a certain way but maybe the parents can help make them not have to feel like they have to be like their barbies. Everyone is different so its not super easy to find out what the best way is.
I also believe that barbie dolls have a big influence on the way kids view their selves. Young girls might tend to want the same figure, or hair color, or hairstyle as barbie, and compare their selves to the plastic dolls and get depressed. I believe that barbie should not hold that kind of power over youth.
I thought this video was hilarious. It makes a valid point in showing that barbies are really the only doll with this much controversy and it doesn't make much sense why. I see their argument but arguments can also be made about other dolls that are not addressed.
I found this video very funny. I remember watching it live and seeing how it relates to this unit. This type of doll video is different than the bratz one because it shows more of racial issue rather than physical characteristics.
