The key to a good advertisement inside everyday media is to have the consumer think subconsciously about buying the product. When obviously stating the product such as in shark tank, the humans mind almost bypasses that product and looks at the attempted advertisement as almost a joke. In American Idol, all of the judges drink out of Coca-Cola glasses to symbolize that they all enjoy coke. To the normal fan of American Idol, if you see the judges drinking coke, you too would want to drink coke because the people you look up to drink coke too.

Regardless for the advertisement to be a big hit, it just needs to be talked about by the everyday person. Even if that means the pr is good or bad.

  1. I agree with this post completely. Advertisers poke at the unconscious mind of consumers constantly. American Idol was a great example; sometimes there is water in the coke glasses... not even the actual drink they are advertising. However, viewers do not know this. This is a great example of product placement.

  3. I agree completely with what your saying. Advertisment is all about what you put your advertisment in such as puting coke glasses on american idol. I think the most popular advertisment is in the movie business, they seem to try and slip in as many popular products as they can whenever they can and it works, i can remember looking at a product and remembering that was in a recent film i watched, and thats how it works.
